Picture Hanging System Question (Pre Order)

Question 1: What is a picture hanging system?

The Walker Display picture hanging system is so versatile-- a typical installation is comprised of molding, rod sleeves, rods or cables, and hooks or holders. It allows you to easily position your art anywhere on the wall.  The vertical rods can slide left and right to any position you want.  The picture hooks and holders can slide up and down to any spot you need. 

Question 2: How do you install the Walker Display picture system?

ONE--install the horizontal molding on the wall.

TWO--connect a rod sleeve to a vertical rod

THREE--hang the rod sleeve and vertical rod from Step Two, over the horizontal molding that is now on the wall. Repeat for all the rods and rod sleeves you have ordered. 

FOUR--slide picture hooks and holders up the vertical rod, then tighten the hook's thumbscrew with your fingers when the hook is where you need it.  Start hanging your artwork.

It is easy to install the horizontal aluminum molding (or 'track' or 'rail') on the wall. Among the tools you may need are a level (or a tape measure), a power drill, screwdriver, and #8 or #10 Flathead screws.  We don't supply screws or anchors due to the many possible types of wall construction. Consult your local hardware dealer.  Always observe safety instructions and precautions when using any tools, ladders etc.  

One length of horizontal molding is eight feet long.  Each length of molding comes with six nylon mounting snaps and one joiner.  Install the six mounting snaps on the wall, by turning a screw through the snap into the wall stud. Once all six snaps are on the wall, hook the top of the horizontal molding over the snaps.  Hit the molding with the heel of your hand to snap it on.  Use the oval-shaped joiner to help with alignment if you are installing the next length of molding in a continuous line with the first molding.  

If your walls are brick, concrete or other type of masonry, the Heavy Duty brass snaps #550-B must be ordered and used in place of the nylon snaps. Your local hardware dealer again will be able to help with screws and anchors. 

Next, the lock-on rod sleeves are installed onto the vertical rods. These vertical rods will hang down from the molding. Each lock-on rod sleeve has a set screw which is tightened once the vertical rod has been inserted into the square tube.

Hold the bottom of the vertical rod, and hook the lock-on rod sleeve over the molding that is installed on the wall.    The last steps will involve sliding the picture hooks onto the vertical rods, and then hanging the art work. 

Question 3: Does Walker Display install the picture system?

We do not.   You may install the picture hanging system yourself, work with a maintenance person on your staff, or locate an individual in your area who is known as a "handyman".  

Question 4: I am putting together a small display area, which pieces will I need?

Generally, you’ll need horizontal molding (or 'track or 'rail'). As a starting point, you can start with three rod sleeve s to hold three  vertical rod  s and then one, two or more  hook s on the vertical rod to hold your pictures. Check out "How It Works" here on the website as the page shows these basic pieces in relation to each other.

Question 5: Can I install the picture hanging system on concrete or brick walls?

Yes, you can install the Walker Display picture hanging system on brick, concrete, stucco or other type of masonry.    Heavy duty brass mounting snaps #550B are required for this type of application.  You will need one set of brass snaps (six brass snaps in a set) for each 8'-0 length of horizontal aluminum molding.   Please visit your local hardware store for the correct Flathead screws and anchors required in masonry applications. 

Question 6: What is the maximum weight I can suspend from the Walker Display Picture hanging system?

The Walker Display picture hanging system has been rated at 150 lbs per 8 foot length of  molding when correctly installed.  The 150 lb limit for molding must be adhered to.  The  vertical fiberglass rod is rated at 50 lbs per rod. The cable hooks have been tested at 20 lbs. The Kleer Vu acrylic rods are for Light Weight, Flat artwork such as photos in acrylic and items on foam boards.  Kleer Vu rods are not recommended for heavy art and 3D pieces.

Question 7: How easy is it to change pictures?

Very easy! And generally no tools are needed. The vertical rods slide left and right, like drapes, so you can move the rods anywhere along your wall. You can also move the artwork up or down on the rod to wherever you like. Generally, the art can be lifted off the hook and taken down.  Usually without tools.

Question 8: What is your refund policy?  

PLEASE REPORT ANY DAMAGES OR SHORTAGES WITHIN 10 DAYS OF RECEIPT OF ORDER. Please inspect your order upon receipt.  All returns must have prior authorization from Walker Display. 

If a product arrived damaged or we made an error in shipping, please contact us so we can arrange to exchange the item. 

Returns due to other reasons will result in a restocking fee and will require you to pay for the shipping costs associated with returning the merchandise to us.  Original shipping and processing charges will not be refunded.   Please note we cannot accept returns on custom manufactured items unless the product is defective.

Restocking Fee Schedule

15% restocking fee on product returned within 30 days of the original invoice date

25% restocking fee on product returned between 31 and 90 days of the original invoice date

In all cases, product must be in new, unused, condition and packaged carefully to avoid damage in return transit.

Question 9: Does Walker Display buy back used materials?

No, we do not. A school, a library or similar facility in your area, using this system, might be very happy to accept a donation of materials.  As an alternative, selling any material on craigslist may work for you.

Question 10: Can I easily transfer the picture hanging system if I move?

Yes, simply and gently pry the molding off of the wall with a screwdriver at the nylon mounting snap locations. We recommend using new mounting snaps when you relocate the system.

 

Question 12: Do you have everything in stock?

Yes, all of our picture hanging products are in stock.

Question 13: What is the lead time of a picture hanging system?

We ship via FedEx Ground every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for all orders we have in hand by Noon Central Time on those days.  After your order has shipped you can expect it within 1-5 business days depending on your delivery location in the lower 48 states. Challenging weather conditions can sometimes slow down delivery.

We also offer expedited delivery services with FedEx Two Day Air and FedEx Overnight,  for completed orders that we have in hand at Noon Central Time, on any business day.  We also ship around the world.  For expedited or international delivery service, please email us at wdinc@walkerdisplay.com with details and destination zip. Challenging weather conditions can sometimes slow down delivery.

Question 14: I need a picture hanging system tomorrow, can you ship it that quick?

Yes, we can ship orders via FedEx Priority Overnight if we receive your Complete Order by Noon Central Time today. Priority Overnight orders must be paid in full, prior to shipment.   FedEx Two Day Air is also available and these orders need to be in by Noon Central Time to ship that day.  Please keep in mind that challenging weather conditions can sometimes slow down delivery.

Question 15: Do you have a free sample kit?

Yes, our sample kit is free and there is no mailing charge if it is mailed to an address in the U.S. The kit contains short lengths of each color of horizontal aluminum molding, and vertical rods.  A length of wood molding and related ogee rod sleeve are in the kit,  as well as a hi-hook and mounting snaps. Please contact us at 800.234.7614 or by email and we will send you one. Please note that our sample kits can contain "seconds" which don't affect the utility of the piece. 

 The kits are sent by U.S. Mail, please allow for time for delivery.   If time is of the essence, we can ship the sample kit via Overnight or via Two Day Air.  For this service,  a credit card is required. Please contact us for details. 

  

Question 16: Does Walker Display supply the screws needed to anchor into the wall?

No. Due to various types of construction we can only suggest the type of screw needed,  which is #8 or #10 Flathead.  Please contact your local hardware store for advice on the length of the screw and any anchors, based on your wall construction.

Question 17: Does Walker Display have everything required to install a picture hanging system?

Everything except the screws to anchor the mounting snaps to the wall. We recommend using a #8 or #10 Flathead wood screw approximately 2 or more inches in length for typical 1/2” drywall on 2x4 wood stud construction. Please visit your local hardware store and they will direct you to the correct type of screw needed for your wall construction.

Question 18: How long are the aluminum or wood molding (or “tracks”) that are installed on the wall?

Both the wood molding and aluminum molding are 8’-0 long which you can easily cut on your job site, to suit.   Use a wood saw for the wood molding, or a hack saw for the aluminum molding.

Question 19: Does the Walker Display picture hanging system work on a curved wall?

Yes, please call us at 800.234.7614 or email us and we will send you information on how to apply our picture hanging system on a curved wall.

Question 20: What colors can I choose from?

You can choose from unfinished aluminum, gray powdercoat paint, bronze powdercoat paint, and white powdercoat paint for the aluminum molding.

The wood molding is unfinished poplar that you can paint, stain or leave as is.

The fiberglass vertical rods are available in gray, bronze, and white. The Kleer Vu rods are acrylic plastic for Flat, LIghtweight artwork that is not changed frequently.  

Hooks and holders are zinc plated steel which is a shiny and durable finish. Photographs of the color choices can be viewed in the description of the components,  here on the website.

Question 21: How many vertical rods do I need?

The horizontal molding comes in eight foot lengths. We generally recommend as a starting point, three vertical rods hanging down in an eight foot section. If your art is smaller, you may want more vertical rods and if your art is larger, you may want fewer vertical rods.  Depending on the look you are going for, you may have one or more pieces of art on each vertical rod. 

Question 22: How do the vertical rods work when I want to move my art pieces up or down?

You will need a hi-hook, hi-holder or other picture -holding fixture to be attached to the vertical rod. These hooks or holders that hold your artwork can be moved up and down on the rod.   Hold on to the artwork, or temporarily take it down. Loosen the thumbscrew with your fingers, re-position the hook or holder, tighten the thumbscrew.  Replace the art if you took it down.   It's easy as that!

Question 23: The rods are varying lengths. Which length will work with the display I'm considering?

As an example, let's say the horizontal molding is installed on the wall at eight feet above the finished floor. With that in mind, a four foot long vertical rod will be a good length to start with. The bottom of the vertical four rod would end about the middle of the wall.   The available lengths are 2'-0,  3'-0,  4'-0,  5'-0,  6'-0 and  8'-0. 

If you like, you may use longer vertical rods if you intend to hang art lower on the wall.  The shortest stock length for a vertical rod is two feet long, and you can cut it on-site if you need. 

Question 24: Can I hang more than one piece of art on a vertical rod?

Yes. The number of pictures will be determined by the total weight of the art pieces, and whether the art pieces will fit in the space you have in mind.  Keep in mind each piece of artwork (or frame) needs its own hook or holder.

Written and signed purchase orders are accepted. They can be emailed to wdinc@walkerdisplay.com or faxed to 218.624.8991.  You can simply US Mail them also.  

Question 2: Can I pay with PayPal?

No, we currently do not accept payment via paypal.

Question 3: How long does it take to process payments?

Immediately. Please contact us as soon as possible at 800.234.7614 if you need to make a change to your order.

 

Question 4: Does Walker Display have a dealer located in my area?

We manufacture and market the Walker Display components from our facility in Minnesota.   We also have some Catalog Dealers with locations around the US.  Please note the Catalog Dealers can place an order for you but they do not stock our components.

Question 5: I haven’t received an email yet?

After purchasing a picture hanging system from Walker Display you’ll receive an email soon after that, indicating your card has been used.  At the end of our business day, our system will email you the complete paid invoice with the FedEx tracking number printed as the last line item.  You may input the tracking number  here to track your order.

 
Ordering FAQ’s

Question 1:Should I order through the website or call in?

You can use either method, the orders are processed as soon as possible. We review each order to help avoid errors. 

MINNESOTA ORDERS: for orders delivered in Minnesota please call or send us an email with your order if you have a Minnesota Sales Tax Exemption Certificate you wish to use.  Be aware the shopping cart will automatically charge Minnesota sales tax on orders shipped to Minnesota addresses.

OTHER STATES: You may place an order whichever way you feel most comfortable ----order online through our website anytime, or email the items and quantities to wdinc@walkerdisplay.com.    You can call us too.  We are here to accept orders on the phone 800.234.7614 Monday through Friday 8:00AM until 4:00PM Central Standard Time. 

Question 2: Can you cancel my order?

Yes, please call us at 800.234.7614 as soon as you are able. There may be charges associated with this.

Question 3: I'm not sure about which pieces I need, can you help me through the process?

Yes, please call one of our friendly associates at 800.234.7614 and they will help you through the process.

Question 4: Does Walker Display have a dealer located in my area?

Walker Display manufactures and markets the components in our facility in Minnesota.   We also have some Catalog Dealers with locations around the US.  Please note they can place an order for you but they do not stock our components.

After Purchase FAQ’s

Question 1: My order hasn’t shown up yet, do you provide a tracking number?

Yes, we email to you FedEx tracking number(s) at the end of the Shipping Day.  Please call us at 800.234.7614 or email us at wdinc@walkerdisplay.com if you haven’t received the email with tracking number.

Question 2: I ordered the wrong picture hanging components, can I make an exchange?

Yes, please let us know as soon as possible. See our return policy.

Question 3: I didn’t get anchoring screws with my molding, where are they??

We don’t supply screws or anchors for the mounting snaps due to the many different types of wall construction. We do recommend #8 or #10 Flathead screws which are common hardware store items.

Question 4: I didn’t get set screws with my hooks or holders or rod sleeves, where are they??

We always supply thumbscrews for the hooks, holders and set screws for the rod sleeves.   Please open your order completely.  Remove the metal cap from the shipping tube and take all of the items out of the tube. Sometimes both metal caps should be removed as the contents can get hung up in the tube.  Take the clear wrap off the parts. Do not discard anything until all the items are accounted for.  

If you ordered a ten pack of lock-on rod sleeves, for example, the screws will be in a small bag stapled to the paper indentification tag that is in the lock-on bag. Don't throw anything away until all the parts have been accounted for. 

 

If you ordered less than a ten pack, such as a few hooks, the Allen screws or the thumbscrews will be installed in the lock-on or hook.  Use the provided Allen wrench, a pencil tip, a paper clip or other similar object to verify the screw is present in the rod sleeve.

Question 1: With which carrier do you ship ?

We ship via FedEx Ground. Our shipping days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for completed orders that we have in hand by Noon Central Time, on those days . After the order has shipped you can expect it within about 1 to 5 business days depending on your delivery location in the contiguous 48 states and depending upon weather conditions that FedEx may encounter. We can ship via FedEx Two Day Air and FedEx Overnight, in the U.S. or around the world if we have your paid order in hand by Noon Central Time.  

Question 2: Does Walker Display ship outside the United States?

Yes, we ship all over the world. Please email or phone and we can calculate the shipping and delivery times.

Question 3: I need my picture hanging system tomorrow, can you ship that quickly?

Yes, we'll need your complete order by NOON Central Time that day, for delivery the next day. Expedited orders require a credit card. Please call us at 218.624.8990 if you are calling from outside of the lower 48 states.
